Liptovský Mikuláš to unveil Olympic Winners Park and monument

Liptovský Mikuláš is set to unveil Slovakia’s first Olympic Winners Park on October 10. The centerpiece of the park is a five-meter-tall monument weighing approximately 24 tons, created by academic sculptor Martin Navrátil over a ten-month period.

The monument utilizes bronze, stainless steel, and white concrete. Bronze figures represent the sports in which local athletes Petra Vlhová, Michal Martikán, and Elena Kaliská won Olympic gold. The design incorporates stainless steel elements inspired by the Olympic rings.

Located on 1. mája Street, the park's first phase includes the monument, landscaping, and walkways. Future development plans include a museum, sports memorabilia exhibitions, a reading room, and a playground. The opening ceremony will feature Olympic champion Petra Vlhová and silver medalist Jakub Grigar, alongside a charity auction to support local youth sports.
