BTS and Lisa achieve historic wins at 2026 MTV VMAs

K-pop artists achieved significant milestones at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. BTS secured three awards, including the prestigious ‘Song of the Year’ for their track ‘Swim’ from the album ‘Arirang’. This win marks the first time an Asian group has won the ‘Song of the Year’ category in the 42-year history of the VMAs. BTS also won ‘Best K-Pop’ and ‘Best Group’, with the latter being their fifth consecutive win in that category.

Blackpink’s Lisa also made history as the first Asian solo artist to win a major VMA award, taking home ‘Best Pop’ for her song ‘Dream’. Lisa was also nominated in several other categories, including ‘Best K-Pop’, ‘Best Cinematography’, and ‘Best Editing’.

Other major winners at the ceremony included Madonna, who won seven awards including ‘Artist of the Year’, and Taylor Swift, who took home three awards including ‘Video of the Year’.
