Lisbon Airport: Police cooperation detects 206 irregular travel cases

A joint operational cooperation between the Portuguese Public Security Police (PSP) and Ireland's national police, An Garda Síochána, has identified 206 irregular travel situations at Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport over a one-year period.

Between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, the collaboration detected various forms of documentation fraud and immigration irregularities. Of the total cases, 113 involved forged or counterfeit documents, while 76 passengers were found to be lacking the necessary visas for travel to Ireland. Other identified issues included nine instances of providing misleading information, six cases of identity misuse, and two instances involving the abuse of the Common Travel Area agreement between Ireland and the United Kingdom.

This initiative marks the first year of operational cooperation following a memorandum of understanding between the two forces. As part of the agreement, a liaison officer from the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) is stationed at the airport to work alongside PSP border guards and airlines to analyze passengers traveling to the Republic of Ireland.
