Lisbon Metropolitan Area approves new transport passes for tourists

The Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) Metropolitan Council has unanimously approved the creation of new public transport passes specifically designed for tourists and event attendees. The decision authorizes TML – Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa to implement several new ‘Navegante’ ticket options.

The new fare structures include a ‘Navegante 1 day’ pass for 15 euros, a ‘Navegante 3 days’ pass for 27 euros, and a ‘Navegante 5 days’ pass for 37.50 euros. Additionally, a ‘Navegante eventos’ pass will be introduced, with costs varying based on the duration of specific events.

Emanuel Costa, the metropolitan first secretary, stated that the initiative aims to promote public transport as a natural entry point for visitors rather than a service exclusively for residents. The revenue generated from these tickets will be distributed monthly among transport operators based on the proportion of trips performed by each during the ticket's validity period. A specific start date for commercialization has not yet been determined.
