Literacy initiatives expand across Indonesia through charity and corporate programs

Various social initiatives are targeting literacy improvement across Indonesia through book donations and library revitalizations.

The Mentari Edu Charity Pustaka Baca program, organized by Mentari Group, has distributed book collections, stationery, and reading racks to 25 orphanages. These locations span several cities, including Jakarta, Cirebon, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, and Medan. The initiative aims to strengthen literacy among Indonesian children by providing curated reading materials for various age groups.

In a separate effort, PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) has revitalized 57 libraries as part of its social and environmental responsibility program. This project includes facility improvements and the provision of maritime-themed educational books to foster maritime awareness and environmental sustainability. The program covers multiple regions, including Jakarta, Central Java, Pulau Sambu, Pangkalan Susu, Lhokseumawe, Batam, Balikpapan, Sorong, Morowali, and Maluku.
