Lithuania aims for EU vote on ending seasonal time changes

Lithuania expects a European Union vote on abandoning seasonal time changes to take place in late June 2027. This timeline coincides with the conclusion of Lithuania's presidency of the Council of the European Union.

According to Deputy Transport Minister Lukas Paškevičius, the issue will be discussed informally at the EU Transport Ministers' Council in February 2027. The proposal has already been included in Lithuania's proposed presidency agenda, following discussions with ministers from France, Spain, Germany, and the Nordic countries, as well as members of the European Parliament.

A European Commission study, expected in February 2027, will evaluate the potential impacts of ending time changes on various sectors, including agriculture, health, and the economy. While member states have not yet reached a consensus on which time to adopt permanently, Southern European countries have expressed a preference for permanent summer time to maximize daylight.
