Lithuania allocates €10 million to support short food supply chains

Lithuania is enhancing its support for short food supply chains (SFSC) as part of its 2023–2027 strategic plan for agricultural and rural development. A total of 10 million euros, funded by the European Union and the national budget, has been allocated to this initiative to bolster national food security.

The Ministry of Agriculture is refining support rules to encourage cooperation among farmers. Key updates include increasing the support intensity for business plan expenses from 40 percent to 60 percent. Higher rates are available for specific groups: projects involving only young farmers can receive up to 80 percent support, while projects consisting entirely of very small farms (with an economic size below 16,000 euros) can receive up to 85 percent.

Farmers will be able to submit new applications for these funds starting in November. The program also allows for the acquisition of specialized equipment, such as mobile slaughterhouses for the livestock sector and harvesting machinery for horticulture.
