Lithuania allocates over 100,000 euros to diaspora sports projects

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport has allocated more than 103,000 euros to support 20 sports initiatives organized by Lithuanian diaspora communities and Lithuanian schools abroad. This year's funding represents a significant increase compared to the previous year, when 45,500 euros were distributed.

The largest grant of 10,000 euros was awarded to the Lithuanian Sports Association of Great Britain for the 2026 British Lithuanian Sports Games. Other notable recipients include the Colorado Lithuanian School in the United States for a healthy lifestyle and creativity camp (9,900 euros), a Greek-Cypriot community project (8,500 euros), a padel tournament in Spain (8,200 euros), and a family sports festival in Ireland (7,800 euros).

Funding was also granted to communities in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Germany. The grants are intended for renting sports facilities and equipment, insurance, merchandise, and small prizes. The selection process prioritized projects that foster Lithuanian identity, encourage community engagement across various age groups, and ensure the sustainability of activities.
