Lithuania changes AM category driving license requirements
Starting November 1, Lithuania will implement new requirements for obtaining an AM category driving license, which permits the operation of mopeds and light quadricycles (microcars). Under the new regulations, candidates must be at least 16 years old and must pass both a theoretical and a practical driving exam.
Previously, the minimum age was 15, and candidates only needed to pass a theory exam at Regitra. The change aims to improve road safety for young drivers, as a lack of practical experience has been linked to dangerous traffic situations. Regitra noted a significant increase in AM category exam attempts in recent years, highlighting the growing popularity of these vehicles among youth.
A transitional rule applies to those who pass the theory exam by October 31; they will be subject to the current regulations. However, all candidates attempting to acquire the license from November 1 onwards must meet the new age and practical examination standards.
