Lithuania deploys military to strengthen Kaliningrad border
Lithuania has announced the deployment of military forces to strengthen its border with the Kaliningrad region. Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas stated that the move is a preventive measure intended to bolster border security following recent incidents in the region.
The decision follows reports of hybrid threats and security concerns, including signals of potential Russian mobilization. Katelynas emphasized that while the deployment is a proactive step, the current situation on the Lithuanian border remains calm.
The move is also a response to recent provocations at the Latvian-Belarusian border. According to the Latvian National Armed Forces, armed, masked individuals recently led groups of migrants toward the border, threatening soldiers and engaging in acts of vandalism, such as damaging electrical infrastructure and stealing cameras.
