Lithuania electricity prices expected to rise in October
Wholesale electricity prices in Lithuania rose in September, reaching an average of 108.44 EUR per megawatt-hour (MWh), according to data from Elektrum Lietuva. This represents an increase compared to the same period last year.
Experts from Elektrum Lietuva and Enefit suggest that electricity prices are unlikely to decrease in October. Several factors are contributing to this trend, including the onset of the heating season, rising electricity consumption, and a decrease in solar energy generation as sunny hours diminish. The balance between energy production and consumption is expected to be a primary driver of price fluctuations.
Regional connectivity and infrastructure maintenance also play significant roles. Repairs on the EstLink 1 connection between Estonia and Finland, along with work on the Tartu-Valmiera link, have reduced the flow of cheaper Finnish electricity into the region. Additionally, Lithuania's integration into the North European energy market means price shifts in neighboring countries, such as Poland, impact local costs. Enefit estimates that October prices could reach approximately 137.27 EUR per MWh.
