Lithuania electricity prices rise amid lower wind generation

Wholesale electricity prices in Lithuania rose significantly between August 10 and 16, increasing by 72.2 percent from 39.1 EUR/MWh to 67.4 EUR/MWh. This price hike followed a decrease in wind energy generation across the Baltic Sea region, particularly in Scandinavia.

Despite the price increase, Lithuanian domestic production met 101 percent of the country's electricity needs, totaling 238 GWh. This represents a 19.3 percent increase in total production compared to the previous week. Wind power was the largest contributor, accounting for 44 percent of production, while solar energy provided 38 percent.

Electricity demand in Lithuania decreased by 3.2 percent to 213.3 GWh. Due to the generation gap in the broader region, electricity exports from Lithuania to Sweden increased by 39 percent, reaching 67 GWh.
