Lithuania environmental department bans electronic waste as metal scrap

The Environmental Protection Department (AAD) has issued a reminder that electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) waste cannot be accepted or processed as metal scrap. This regulation applies to items such as refrigerators, washing machines, computers, and other electronic devices.

Only waste managers registered in the State Register of Waste Managers with the specific legal right to handle such materials are permitted to accept EEE waste. If electronic waste is discovered during the acceptance of metal scrap, it must be immediately separated, and its quantity and specific waste code must be recorded in the documentation.

Metal scrap processors are required to properly identify incoming waste, ensure electronic waste is not misclassified as scrap, and provide information to waste holders regarding proper disposal methods. Additionally, collection sites must display a list of prohibited non-ferrous metals and waste. Failure to comply with these waste management requirements may result in administrative liability.
