Lithuania farmers face uncertainty following severe storms

Recent severe storms and heavy rainfall in Lithuania have caused significant concern for the agricultural sector and civil safety. Farmers are facing difficulties with waterlogged fields, which threatens both the harvesting of current crops and the timely sowing of winter crops.

The Ministry of Agriculture has requested municipalities to collect data on farm damage by September 11. This information will be used to determine if a request for aid should be submitted to the European Commission. To support affected producers, the Ministry has indicated that sanctions will not be applied to those unable to meet certain strategic plan requirements due to the August 22 weather events or related power outages.

Civil protection specialists are also emphasizing the importance of proactive emergency preparedness. They advise citizens to develop family plans and maintain essential supplies in advance, noting that extreme situations often simultaneously disrupt vital services like electricity and water.
