Lithuania braces for hot weekend, thunderstorms and cooler showers
Lithuania experienced a heat wave on Friday, with temperatures surpassing 30 °C in many areas and a historic 39 °C record noted in 1994. The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service warned of dangerous high temperatures and issued forecasts for the coming days.
For Saturday, forecasters expect temperatures to rise to 28‑33 °C inland and 24‑27 °C along the coast, accompanied by short, intense showers, thunder, and possible hail. Wind gusts may reach 15‑20 m/s, especially where the low‑pressure system named Gudru moves in from the southwest. Sunday should bring milder conditions, with temperatures around 21‑26 °C and decreasing rain, while the wind eases.
Early next week a second heat wave is predicted, bringing another rise in temperatures and occasional thunderstorms. Overall, the weekend will transition from extreme heat to cooler, wetter weather across Lithuania.
