Lithuania heat wave triggers health warnings and safety advice
Meteorologists warned that on Friday, Saturday and Sunday temperatures across Lithuania’s Tauragė, Marijampolė, Kaunas and Alytus counties would reach 30‑35 °C, with no rain forecast. They advised limiting time outdoors, staying hydrated, keeping children and pets out of closed cars and following health‑ministry guidance.
Pharmacist Elvyra Ramaškienė explained how to recognise early signs of heat‑related exhaustion and heat stroke, urging people to drink at least two litres of water daily, avoid strenuous activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and seek immediate medical help if symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, nausea, dizziness or a body temperature above 40 °C appear. Vulnerable groups – children, the elderly and those with chronic conditions – were highlighted as needing extra care.
