Lithuania hits June heat record with 36.3 °C in Druskininkai

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service recorded a temperature of 36.3 °C in the spa town of Druskininkai on Sunday, establishing a new national June‑month record. The previous June high of 35.7 °C was set in Kaišiadorys in 2019. Forecaster Paulius Starkus said the reading "creates not only a June‑28 high but also a new overall June record for the country".

Meteorologists warn that the heat wave will continue, with forecasts of 28‑33 °C on Saturday, 31‑36 °C on Sunday and up to 37 °C on Monday. Health authorities advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, avoid direct sun, and keep cool in ventilated spaces. The weather warning covers the southwestern part of Lithuania, where temperatures are expected to be the highest.

The high temperatures come as the political season proceeds, with the Democratic Union "For Lithuania" presenting ministerial candidates to the president, but the immediate public focus remains on the extreme heat and related health precautions.
