Lithuania introduces new heating season regulations

New amendments to the Heat Economy Law in Lithuania will establish a standardized heating season, generally running from October 1 to April 30. While municipalities previously determined the start and end dates based on outdoor temperatures, the new regulations aim for clearer national management.

Under the new rules, the heating season can begin earlier if the average outdoor temperature remains below 10°C for three consecutive days. Similarly, the season may end if temperatures stay above 10°C for three consecutive days.

Residents in apartment buildings equipped with modernized or automated heat points gain more autonomy. A majority vote (50% plus one vote) from apartment owners allows these buildings to start or end their heating season at times different from the standard schedule. For buildings without modernized heat points, municipalities will continue to set the dates based on actual weather conditions. For non-municipal heat consumers, such as private organizations and businesses, the season is fixed from October 1 to April 30.
