Lithuania weather warning: Strong winds and potential power outages

Strong winds and storms are forecasted for Lithuania on October 9, with the potential for extreme meteorological conditions along the coast. Wind gusts in the Klaipėda region may reach between 24 and 28 m/s, qualifying as a hazardous weather event.

There is a significant risk of power supply disruptions, particularly in the Alytus, Klaipėda, Kaunas, and Utenos regions. The energy distribution operator, ESO, has increased its readiness across all regions to respond to potential damage and outages.

Authorities and meteorologists advise residents to take safety precautions, including securing loose outdoor objects, avoiding parking under trees or near power lines, and charging electronic devices. To protect sensitive equipment from voltage fluctuations, it is recommended to unplug unnecessary appliances. In the event of a power outage, citizens are encouraged to prepare food supplies and alternative lighting sources.
