Lithuania issues yellow weather warning for thunderstorms on July 18

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (Meteo LT) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning across the country on Saturday, July 18. Alerts advise people to stay indoors during lightning, unplug electrical appliances, avoid open areas, trees, and metal structures, and keep vehicle windows closed. Possible power outages are mentioned.

The forecast predicts variable cloud cover on Thursday, rain on Friday, and increasingly strong winds and short heavy showers on Saturday, with temperatures ranging from 21 °C to 29 °C in coastal areas and lower inland. The warning covers all districts except Utena County, the Curonian Lagoon, and the southeastern Baltic region. Recommendations include seeking shelter and securing loose objects.

Meteo LT notes that the anticlockone Laurent has settled over the North Atlantic, blocking western cyclones, while a convergence zone is forming over Western and Central Europe, leading to the expected convective activity.
