Lithuania Launches National AI Factory Initiative
Lithuania’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation announced the creation of a national artificial‑intelligence factory, “LitAI”. The programme invites applications until 30 September for part of a state‑budget grant that will fund roughly €130 million, with about €100 million expected to save the country’s AI ecosystem and an additional €150 million in economic benefit. The project will be co‑financed by the EU through EuroHPC and led by a Vilnius University‑based consortium, aiming to build a super‑computer infrastructure, data resources and expertise that will be the only AI factory of its scale in the Baltic states.
At the same time, SAP Lithuania highlighted the broader challenges of integrating AI into business. A recent SAP “Autonomous Enterprise” vision and a McKinsey survey show that 88 % of Lithuanian firms already use AI in at least one process, yet many struggle with fragmented workflows, lack of unified data governance and the perception of AI as a mere “toy”. Experts stress that successful AI adoption requires reliable, granular data, clear business context and robust AI management controls.
