Lithuania: Mandatory health insurance obligations for graduates

In Lithuania, young people finishing high school or studies must be aware of their compulsory health insurance (PSD) obligations starting in September. While the state covers insurance for graduates until the end of August, future coverage depends on their subsequent activities.

Students enrolled in continuous study programs in Lithuania remain insured by the state and do not need to pay monthly minimum PSD contributions. However, individuals who are not employed, not covered by the state, and not studying must pay these contributions independently to avoid debt and ensure access to subsidized healthcare services and compensated medicines.

Sodra sends monthly notifications to those required to pay independently. For 2026, the minimum monthly PSD contribution is set at 80.48 euros. Payments should be made using code 444 by the last day of the current month.
