Lithuania opens applications for 2026–2027 heating cost compensations

The Lithuanian Ministry of Social Security and Labour has announced that residents can now apply for housing heating and hot water cost compensations for the 2026–2027 heating season. Applications can be submitted electronically via the SPIS information system or in person at local municipalities.

Compensations are intended to ensure that heating costs for low-income residents do not exceed one-tenth of their income. Eligibility is determined by assessing a household's income, real estate, movable property, and non-financial assets. To receive compensation, all persons declared as living in the household must apply if they pay for heating under a single account.

Minister Inga Ruginienė urged citizens not to wait until the last minute, noting that previous cold winters and energy price fluctuations have impacted household bills. It is estimated that approximately 170,600 residents will require assistance for the 2026–2027 season, with total expenditures projected to exceed 80 million euros.
