Lithuania proposes travel bans and real‑estate limits for Russian and Belarusian citizens

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has drafted new sanctions that would require Russian and Belarusian citizens who wish to enter Lithuania for educational, cultural or sporting activities to sign a public declaration condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, supporting the UN Charter and recognising Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. Refusal to sign would result in a travel ban. The proposals also seek to bar Russian and Belarusian residents in Lithuania from purchasing property near strategically important facilities or military training grounds. The measures aim to prevent the use of cultural and entertainment events for propaganda and to protect Lithuania’s security and support for Ukraine. If approved, the rules could take effect on January 1.
