Lithuania reports multiple fires and two fatalities

Lithuanian emergency services reported a series of significant fires over a three-day period, resulting in at least two deaths.

In Vilnius, firefighters responded to a residential fire on Mokyklos Street where a woman was found deceased in her apartment on the tenth floor. A parrot was successfully rescued from the unit. In the Gargždai region, a 63-year-old man died after a fire destroyed his small garden house in Šiūpariai village; his body was discovered near the door, suggesting an attempt to escape.

Other incidents included a fire in a production building in the Kaunas district involving a diesel loader and chaff, and several fires involving biofuel piles in the Marijampolė municipality. In the Biržai district, approximately 10 tons of buckwheat were destroyed by fire.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, 62 people have died in fires across the country so far this year, with 153 individuals sustaining various injuries, marking an increase compared to the same period last year.
