Lithuania's government says diesel tax cuts will be considered only if price exceeds €2.20 per litre

Finance Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius told reporters that there is currently no basis for fiscal measures on fuel prices. He said the government would only consider reducing the diesel excise tax if the retail price of diesel rose above €2.20 per litre.

At the time of the statements, the Lithuanian Energy Agency reported an average diesel price of €2.01 per litre and a gasoline price of €1.76 per litre. Prices had fluctuated between €1.79 and €2.17 for diesel and €1.65 to €1.89 for gasoline across stations. Brent crude was trading around $79.45 a barrel.

Earlier, a temporary six‑cent diesel excise reduction was applied for two months amid the Middle‑East conflict affecting oil shipments through the Hormuz Strait. Other officials, including Finance Minister Taurimas Valys and Energy Minister Lukas Savickas, noted that existing tax‑relief tools are already in place but not needed yet. Industry representatives such as Vidas Šukys of the Lithuanian Fuel Union echoed the call for a review of tax policy if prices stay above regional levels.
