Lithuania to implement fixed heating season dates for apartment buildings

New regulations in Lithuania will establish fixed dates for the heating season in multi-apartment buildings with modernized heating points. Starting October 1, 2026, the season will run annually from October 1 to April 30, replacing the previous system where start and end dates were determined by local municipalities and weather conditions.

Jonavos šilumos tinklai director Jonas Kaminskas noted that this change provides clarity for both residents and suppliers. He highlighted that all apartment buildings under their management already utilize automated heating points, which regulate heat delivery based on building needs. Residents still retain the right to vote for alternative heating start dates, provided more than 50 percent of inhabitants agree and hygiene temperature standards are maintained.

These devices transfer heat from air, ground, or water into a home's heating system. Efficiency is measured by the Coefficient of Performance (COP), which is influenced by home insulation and the required temperature of the heating system.
