Lithuania to integrate long-term social and health care services

Lithuania is developing a new Long-term Care Services Act to implement an integrated long-term care (IPP) model. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour and the Ministry of Health, aims to provide social and health care services through a ‘one-stop shop’ principle.

This model is designed to allow individuals requiring daily assistance to access all necessary services in one place, reducing bureaucracy and the need to navigate multiple institutions. Social Security and Labour Minister Inga Ruginienė stated that the goal is to organize aid based on human needs rather than institutional boundaries, ensuring quality and dignified care for an aging population.

The proposed legislation will soon undergo public consultations and a legal regulatory impact assessment. The reform seeks to use state resources more rationally by preventing the duplication of services while supporting citizens who require home care or residential assistance.
