Lithuanian cities host architectural heritage and symposium events

Lithuania is hosting several cultural and architectural events. In Alytus, the first Open Architecture Weekend, titled ‘Buildings Speak. Alytus’, will take place on September 12 and 13. The event aims to explore the city's identity through its history and architecture, highlighting its evolution from a resort town to an industrial center, while maintaining its status as a green city. Key symbols discussed include the local hillfort, the Freedom Angel, the white rose, and the squirrel.

In Palanga, a symposium for architecture students and experts from Lithuania and Denmark will be held at the Palanga Summer Reading Room on September 10–11 to discuss restoration possibilities. New research by Professor Marija Drėmaitė has revealed a deeper history for the modernist pavilion designed by architect Albinas Čepas. The structure, known for its wavy roof and wooden frame, is a unique example of organic modernism on the coast and has been preserved for over sixty years.
