Lithuanian educators honored on International Teachers' Day
In observance of International Teachers' Day, educators in Lithuania have been recognized for their professional contributions and personal dedication to student welfare.
In the Lazdijai district, teachers Virginija Krokininkaitė-Jarutienė and Ilona Akromienė have extended their roles beyond the classroom by becoming foster parents. Krokininkaitė-Jarutienė, an English teacher, shared that her decision to foster was influenced by her own childhood experiences. She has been fostering a child for three years, noting that while the process brings uncertainty and anxiety, it provides children with essential trust and stability.
In the Alytus district, Mayor Rasa Vitkauskienė honored several educators during a ceremony in Simnas. Rather than wishing teachers patience or strength, the Mayor emphasized the importance of inner peace and self-care. Three teachers—Jone Poliakienė, Vilija Kukienė, and Danutė Gudaitienė—received special prizes for their significant contributions to student development. Additionally, twenty teachers received mayoral commendations, and five others were recognized by the Minister of Education, Science and Sport for national-level achievements in student training and international projects.
