Lithuanian educators recognition on International Teachers's

In observance of International Teachers' Day, educators across Lithuania have been recognized for their professional achievements and personal dedication to student welfare.

In Vilnius, the city honored outstanding educators through the Vilnius Teacher of the Year awards. Mayor Valdas Benkunskas presented awards to individuals such as Justina Bortkevičienė, named Teacher of the Year for her innovative professional work, and Ivona Pavlovska, recognized for implementing new educational methods in multilingual environments. The city provides ongoing support for teachers through pedagogical funding, free public transport, and access to cultural activities.

In the Alytus district, Mayor Rasa Vitkauskienė honored several educators in Simnas. During the ceremony, the Mayor emphasized the importance of “inner peace and self-care” rather than merely wishing teachers patience or strength. Three teachers—Jone Poliakienė, Vilija Kukienė, and Danutė Gudaitienė—received special prizes, while twenty others received mayoral commendations. Additionally, five educators were recognized by the Minister of Education, Science and Sport for national-level achievements.

Further recognition in Alytus was granted to Asta Vieraitienė, a primary school teacher and methodologist at Alytus Dzūkija School, who received the Alytus City Municipality Teacher's Day Prize. Vieraitienė has been noted for her creative integration of chess into daily lessons to help students develop concentration and planning skills. Her students have achieved success in various chess tournaments, and her class has earned the title of ‘Playing Class’ in Alytus.

In the Lazdijai district, the dedication of educators was highlighted through the personal commitment of teachers Virginija Krokininkaitė-Jarutienė and Ilona Akromienė, who have taken on roles as foster parents.
