Lithuanian handball clubs to face Czech and Romanian opponents
Two Lithuanian handball clubs, Klaipėda Dragūnas and Kaunas Granitas-Karys, have been drawn into the second stage of the EHF European Cup. The draws were conducted at the European Handball Federation headquarters in Vienna.
Klaipėda Dragūnas, the Lithuanian champion, will face the Czech club Zubri. Zubri, founded in 1926, recently celebrated its centenary and finished fourth in the Czech championship last season. Dragūnas coach Miglius Astrauskas noted that the Czech league is of similar strength to the Baltic Handball League, making the matchup competitive.
Kaunas Granitas-Karys, who advanced to this stage after defeating Nicosia Omonoia 29M, will compete against the Romanian club Politehnica Timișoara. The first leg of these matches is scheduled to take place at home for the Lithuanian teams on October 17 or 18, with the return legs held away one week later.
