Lithuanian police report rising electric scooter violations

Lithuanian police are reporting a concerning rise in traffic violations involving electric scooters and other micro-mobility devices. In Druskininkai, authorities have noted a trend of intoxicated riders and accidents, including a recent collision involving a 17-year-old motor scooter driver and a Nissan Juke that resulted in hospitalization.

In the Jonava district, police have recorded 208 violations related to electric micro-mobility devices so far this year. A significant portion of these, 174 instances, involved riders failing to wear mandatory helmets. Additionally, 22 riders were caught operating vehicles while intoxicated. Officials note that while many riders are aware of the helmet requirement, some continue to ignore it or offer excuses to avoid compliance.
