Liti wildfire in Thessaloniki kills third victim, 53‑year‑old woman

A wildfire that broke out in the Liti area of Thessaloniki spread across the Derbeni mountain ridge, destroying homes and businesses. The fire claimed three lives: a 66‑year‑old man, his 12‑year‑old son and a 53‑year‑old woman who suffered a cardiac arrest when she saw the flames approaching her house. A 40‑year‑old woman was hospitalized with burns.

Local authorities say the blaze may have started from a vehicle belonging to a 76‑year‑old man; he was detained and later released pending further investigation. The community president, Konstantinos Patsalas, described the incident as an "extremely difficult period" for the municipality of Oraiokastro and the villages of Liti and Anthoupoli. The fire also completely destroyed three businesses and damaged several others, while causing significant environmental damage to the forested area.
