Lito Sousa, aviation influencer, dies at 59

Joselito Geraldo de Sousa, widely known as Lito Sousa, has died at the age of 59 in São Paulo. A prominent aviation specialist and digital influencer, he gained national recognition through his YouTube channel, ‘Aviões e Músicas’, where he used his decades of experience as a mechanic and pilot to demystify aviation safety and technical procedures for millions of followers.

Sousa passed away following a battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a rare and fatal neurodegenerative condition caused by prions. In a notable medical effort, he became the first person in Brazil to receive the experimental drug ALN-6457, which had previously only been tested on animals, after receiving exceptional authorization from Anvisa.

His professional career included roles at major companies such as Varig and United Airlines. He is survived by his wife, Mila Seidl, and their seven-year-old son, Malone. His death has drawn widespread tributes from the aviation community and fans across Brazil.
