Liver health: Tomato consumption linked to fat reduction

Recent research published in the journal Nutrients suggests that consuming tomatoes may help combat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. A study involving two groups showed that participants who consumed raw tomatoes and tomato sauce daily experienced a significantly greater reduction in liver fat compared to a control group over a six-week period. Dr. Nadege Gunn of Iterative Health noted that this reduction occurred without significant changes to overall body weight or composition.

In addition to dietary findings, medical experts highlight several warning signs of liver dysfunction. Key symptoms that may indicate an overloaded liver include persistent fatigue, unexplained skin itching without a rash, easy bruising or bleeding due to reduced protein production, and swelling in the abdomen (ascites) or legs (edema). Other indicators include dark urine, pale stools, unexplained weight loss, and reddened palms.
