Liverpool FC in talks to sell minority stake to Amit Bhatia‑led consortium
Fenway Sports Group, the American owner of Liverpool FC, confirmed that it is holding preliminary talks with a consortium led by British‑Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, son‑in‑law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. The group is interested in acquiring a strategic minority stake – reports suggest up to about 30% – which would value the club at roughly $6 billion (£4.5 billion). An initial offer of around £1.35 billion for a 30% share has been cited, though no agreement has been reached and the negotiations remain at an early stage.
Bhatia, who stepped down from his co‑ownership role at Queens Park Rangers this week, is backed financially by the Mittal family. Separately, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached to join the consortium, but he has not confirmed participation. The sale would not affect Fenway Sports Group’s controlling interest in the club, and the talks are being treated as a “strategic minority investment” rather than a full takeover.
