Liverpool sacks manager Arne Slot; captain van Dijk says he wasn't consulted
Liverpool announced the dismissal of manager Arne Slot on May 30 after a season that fell short of expectations, with the club finishing fifth and missing out on trophies. Captain Virgil van Dijk said he only learned of the decision after it had leaked, stating, “I landed in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon and then it had already leaked.”
Former defender Jaap Stam criticised the club’s handling of the situation, calling the decision “unjustified” and saying Liverpool “handled it badly.” Fabrizio Romano reported that former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is set to take over on a two‑year contract until 2028, stepping in as Slot’s replacement.
