Liverpool appoints Julian Ward as sporting director

Julian Ward has been reappointed as Liverpool’s sporting director, succeeding Richard Hughes, who departed for Al-Hilal. Ward, who previously oversaw the arrivals of players like Luis Díaz and Alexis Mac Allister, is now overseeing significant management changes following Fenway Sports Group’s sale of a nearly 40% stake in the club to a consortium including Jeff Bezos.

In terms of squad reinforcement, Ward is reportedly considering triggering a €55 million buy option to make Ronald Araujo’s loan from Barcelona permanent. The Uruguayan defender has impressed the club following his successful adaptation to English football, though his high wages remain a potential complicating factor.

Additionally, Liverpool maintains a long-standing interest in Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. Despite the Frenchman signing a new long-term contract with Madrid, Liverpool has kept lines of communication open with his camp as they seek to bolster their midfield depth.
