Livestock and environmental management strategies discussed in Spain and Venezuela

In Spain, the political party PACMA has called for a ban on hunting as a method to prevent forest fires. The party argues that the decline of extensive livestock farming in favor of intensive macro-farms has led to an accumulation of natural fuel in forests. PACMA suggests that instead of hunting wild herbivores like deer and goats, which naturally consume brush and weeds, local governments should encourage natural grazing to mitigate fire risks.

In Venezuela, the National Federation of Livestock Producers (Fedenaga) is implementing protection and reforestation programs to combat the effects of climate change and the ‘Super Niño’ phenomenon. Vice President José Labrador emphasized the need for long-term sustainability through silvopastoral programs, reforestation, and controlled grazing to maintain forage supplies during droughts. The federation is working on regional studies and exploring financing options to help producers adapt to varying weather patterns.
