Livestock demand rises in Uruguay as Colombian producer prices face agricultural pressure

In Uruguay, the August Hereford Plaza Rural sales saw high demand, with 8,369 cattle sold, representing 99.15% of the total offered. Prices for steers averaged U$S 888, while heifers were priced around U$S 823. Market analysts noted strong interest across all categories, particularly in calves and breeding stock, with high competition among bidders driving prices above pre-offer values.

In Colombia, the Producer Price Index (IPP) showed a variation of -0.33% in August. Despite rising prices in the agricultural and livestock sectors, the index remained pressured. The agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting, and fishing sector recorded a 0.01% variation, which was higher than the average. Year-to-date, the agriculture, livestock, and fishing sector has seen a 9.45% increase, while mining has risen by 7.25%.
