Livestock production trends reported in Argentina and Costa Rica
In Argentina, the province of Entre Ríos has become the fourth largest pork producer in the country, accounting for approximately 8% to 9% of national production. However, the sector faces industrial challenges, as nearly 70% of the pigs raised in the province are sent to slaughterhouses in other jurisdictions, such as Buenos Aires and Santa Fe, due to a lack of local processing infrastructure.
In Costa Rica, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) reported that the national cattle herd reached an estimated 1,495,930 head in 2025, a 1.8% increase from 2024. Meat production accounts for 65.3% of this herd. Additionally, the country's pig population was estimated at 441,886 animals, showing growth from the previous year.
