Livorno and Bari honor late footballer Igor Protti

Livorno and Bari held a memorial event to honor the memory of former striker Igor Protti, who passed away from an incurable illness in June. The commemorations took place on what would have been his 59th birthday.

In Livorno, the square in front of the Armando Picchi stadium entrance was officially named ‘Largo Igor Protti’ during a ceremony attended by the mayors of Livorno and Bari, along with Protti’s family and various local officials. A commemorative plaque was also unveiled in the stadium's Curva Nord, describing him as ‘the greatest player in the history of Livorno Calcio.’ The plaque includes a QR code that allows fans to view footage of his career.

The tribute concluded with a charity football match between the ‘Vecchie Glorie’ (old glories) of Livorno and ASD Bari ’93. The match, which featured several former players and institutional figures, ended in a 5-3 victory for the Tuscan side.
