Livorno health officials rule out Chikungunya case, halt mosquito control measures

Health authorities in Livorno investigated a reported suspicion of Chikungunya virus infection at a local hospital. Further clinical and diagnostic examinations conducted by USL Toscana Nord Ovest confirmed that the patient was not infected with the virus.

Because the infection was ruled out, the extraordinary mosquito‑control and disinfestation actions that had been planned as a precaution were suspended in agreement with the Livorno municipality. The regional health agency reiterated its ongoing monitoring of arboviruses and advised the public to continue standard preventive practices, such as eliminating standing water and applying larvicides, to keep mosquito populations low.
