Livorno officials address via Goito land use and construction plans

The future of the via Goito area in Livorno remains a point of contention between municipal authorities and local activists. Mayor Luca Salvetti announced that following the auction of the six-hectare site to the Frangerini company, 80% of the land must be designated as public space and handed over to the Municipality by early November. The Mayor stated that the planned construction of four new buildings would only occupy 1.83% of the total area, representing a footprint of approximately 1,125 square meters.

Local activists from the Collettivo Orti Urbani di via Goito, represented by Giovanni Ceraolo, continue to protest against the potential urbanization of the site. Ceraolo emphasized that the movement is not merely about defending a private use of the land, but about the broader principle of preventing soil consumption. He argued that any remaining green space should remain unbuilt and suggested that building rights should instead be transferred to already urbanized areas. The activists maintain that the ultimate decision regarding construction rests with the municipal administration's political choices.
