Livorno residents march to defend Via Goito urban gardens
Approximately 2,000 people participated in a large-scale peaceful demonstration in Livorno to defend the Via Goito urban gardens. The protest, organized by the Comitato Orti Urbani, brought together residents and activists from various Italian cities, including Rome, Turin, and Bologna.
The mobilization is a response to the recent acquisition of the area by a private developer, Frangerini, who has presented plans for the site's future. Protesters expressed opposition to the development, using slogans such as “United against the single party of bricks” to oppose land consumption and protect the green space.
Local political figures and various regional associations joined the march, which moved from the garden area to Piazza del Municipio. Organizers emphasized that the movement is a peaceful community effort, while expressing concern that the true conflict will begin once construction equipment arrives on site.
