Livre party accuses Portuguese government of arrogance

Isabel Mendes Lopes, spokesperson for the Livre party, has accused the PSD/CDS-PP government of arrogance and attempting to bypass parliamentary scrutiny. Speaking at the party's 'Os Setembristas' event in Porto, Lopes criticized the executive for refusing to negotiate on key issues, including the 2027 State Budget, and for selectively choosing which parties to engage with.

Lopes also warned against a strategy of presenting labor reforms in stages, a tactic she described as an attempt to pass measures that were previously rejected by the Assembly of the Republic. She specifically highlighted upcoming debates regarding parental leave, noting that the government's approach may fail to protect single-parent families. While criticizing the government's methods, Lopes reaffirmed Livre's commitment to practicing 'constructive opposition' through parliamentary dialogue.
