Latin American cities roll out road and bridge works, causing traffic disruptions

Municipalities across Latin America are implementing a series of road, traffic‑signal and bridge projects that temporarily restrict vehicle flow. In Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, the city upgraded a major intersection to a four‑phase traffic‑light system, adding a dedicated left‑turn phase and posting signage and staff to guide drivers. San Juan’s municipal government announced pavement, pothole‑filling and resurfacing works on several streets, prompting four‑hour partial closures and advising motorists to use alternate routes.

In Culiacán, Mexico, the state’s Public Works Secretariat closed the Pedro Infante Boulevard between the Black Bridge and the State Congress from 5 August to 30 August for construction of a new bridge, directing traffic to nearby avenues. Antioquia, Colombia, began work on a new segment of the Llanogrande‑Canadá corridor, installing controlled traffic flow and offering detours for residents and emergency services. Buenos Aires, Argentina, carried out large‑scale pothole repairs on San Martín Street and Los Constituyentes Boulevard, requiring full road closures for up to four days.

Costa Rica’s Santo Domingo de Heredia saw the opening of a new bridge over the Tures River, with the old crossing closed and public‑transport routes adjusted. Uruguay’s Ministry of Transport announced the rehabilitation of the railway bridge over the Río Negro, part of a broader international rail‑logistics plan. Finally, heavy rain in Sabinas, Mexico, forced a temporary closure of a railway under‑bridge and mobilised civil‑protection units to clear debris and monitor water levels. All projects advise drivers to follow posted signs, respect temporary traffic controls and plan journeys in advance.
