Léo Derik sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape

Athletico Paranaense left-back Léo Derik has been sentenced in the first instance to 13 years in prison for two counts of rape against his former partner. The decision was issued by the 2nd Domestic and Family Violence Court of Curitiba. The sentence consists of two terms of six years and six months each, along with a requirement to pay R$ 20,000 in compensation to the victim.

The legal proceedings are under judicial secrecy. According to the case details, the incidents occurred in Curitiba in December 2023 and February 2024. The athlete, 21, has played 24 matches for the club this season.

Athletico Paranaense stated it is aware of the judicial decision but will not comment on the contents of the case due to the secrecy of the proceedings. The club noted that the sentence is subject to appeal. Athletico coach Odair Hellmann addressed the situation following a match against Bragantino, stating that while the player continues to train, technical decisions regarding his participation in matches are made by the coaching staff and the club.
