Lobito Atlantic Railway reports record cargo volumes

Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) has reported its highest monthly performance for international cargo since operations began in July, handling 27,000 tonnes. The company is managing the railway link between the Port of Lobito in Angola and Luau on the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

LAR expects to move approximately 400,000 tonnes of international cargo this year. Roughly half of this volume is projected to be copper and cobalt transported from the DRC to the Port of Lobito, with the remaining half consisting of goods moved in the opposite direction. The company aims to double this volume to 800,000 tonnes by 2027.

To support these targets, LAR is implementing an investment program focused on rehabilitating the rail line and associated infrastructure, as well as acquiring new wagons, containers, and rolling stock. CEO Nicholas Fournier stated that the results reflect improvements in infrastructure and enhanced operational coordination between Angola and the DRC.
